- Lacquer Finishes - Tour Custom drums are all finished in high-gloss lacquer, three translucent and one solid finish. The Brown Sunburst (BSB), Ocean Blue (OCB), and Sakura White (SAW) allow the beauty of the maple grain show through. The Black Onyx (BKO) is a deep, rich, solid black finish.

- 100% Maple Shells - All maple shells give the Tour Custom drums itswarm, bright tone. Shells are designed with a 60-degree R2 bearing edge that adds the tonal depth found in vintage drums and just the right amount of sustain. Finished with a high gloss lacquer (all new colors) maximizes the sonic potential of the maple shell creating drums that sound and play great in any musical style.

- Y.E.S.S. Mounting System - Providing minimum mount to shell contact, the Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System (YESS) delivers increased resonance plus maximizes dynamic range and sustain. Mounts are attached at the drum's nodal point where shell vibration is least effected. A nylon bushing in the rod clamp offers enhanced stability. this system is also used on our floor tom brackets to deliver maximum sustain.

- Additional Air Holes - Historically, most drums have been vented with a single air hole. Yamaha engineers studied bass drum dynamics and, with the Absolute Series, provided the customary top vent hole one the player's side, and then added holes located around the front end of the shell. The additional air holes permit additional air, the result of "internal combustion", to escape, providing a distinctly more comfortable beater action, more controllable on the rebound. The reduction in beater vibration and backlash in particularly noticeable when an intact head without a hole is used on the audience side.

- Ball Mount and Clamp - Yamaha's legendary ball mount & clamp has been providing drummers with extremely flexible and stable tom placement for over 30 years. Consisting of a large resin ball and wing bolt, this ingenious system incorporates an internal retaining place to deliver maximum stability that will withstand the very rigorous performance.

- Air Seal System - All Yamaha wood drums have one thing in common. Their craftsmen create every drum shell using their exclusive staggered diagonal seam, Air Seal System just as they have since 1967. Each two or three-ply master ply is cut to length to very precise tolerance with a diagonal cut on each end. The diagonal seam in the drum shell will not separate, eliminating the need to fill gaps in the bearing edge with filler putty. These plies have glue applied and are then put into the mold by hand, one master play at a time. The craftsman then inserts an air bag into the mold and inflates it, clamping the shell with even pressure 360 degrees around. This process creates a shell that is strong, starts round, and stays round for many years.

- Universal Size Drums - Tour Custom drums are available in Yamahas universal sizes. This ratio of diameter to depth makes these drums versatile enough for any musical situation. The bass drums have low-end punch but are responsive, the toms have lots of power, yet great sustain.
